Around 85% of the world’s chalk streams are found in England. They are our equivalent of rainforests: rare, richly biodiverse habitats of global ecological importance, yet vulnerable to pollution and the demands placed on their water. Across ten interconnected series, Let the River Decide moves between analogue photography, infrared and thermal imaging, microscopy, moving image and sculpture. Each offers a different encounter with the river: its visible landscape, hidden structures and the traces it leaves behind. River water, sediment, light and chemistry become active materials. Photographs are soaked, stained and transformed; microscopic forms emerge alongside altered landscapes and sculptural surfaces. Chance and physical intervention allow the river to shape both the image and the object. What began as a personal relationship with a place has become an exploration of how art and science can reveal an environment beyond ordinary sight. Beauty, contamination, fragility and resilience coexist within the work. Rooted in the Hogsmill, the project opens onto a wider question: what do our rivers reveal about the way we live, and what we allow to disappear? https://www.kingstonbytheriver.co.uk/contact daily 0.75 2022-02-22 https://www.kingstonbytheriver.co.uk/press daily 0.75 2026-04-19 https://www.kingstonbytheriver.co.uk/work daily 1.0 2026-10-24 https://www.kingstonbytheriver.co.uk/work/let-the-river-decide monthly 0.5 2026-10-24 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/620b7a323cdf473757716028/9e59f663-6a87-4798-82b3-b044c587f779/3.jpg Work -
